The opening of the exhibition “Studying in Crisis Regions” took place on June 8, 2026. In attendance were not only members of the TU community, but also high school students and undergraduates from the University of Hamburg (UniHH) and Hamburg City University (HCU), who also contributed to the exhibition.

The opening reception began with a speech by Margareth Lucy Hidayat, who explained how she came up with the idea to organize this exhibition and how impressed she is by the texts and images that were submitted for it.
This was followed by a speech by Dr. Anne Menzel, a researcher at the Institute for Peace Research and Security Policy. She examined the exhibition from an academic perspective and explained why it is also important for peace research.
The event concluded with Rahmatullah Katawazai from Afghanistan, who gave an impressive account of his personal experiences.

Afterward, the guests (students, high school students, and staff) took an initial tour of the stairwell in the TUHH’s main building, which serves as the exhibition space. The texts, in both German and English, are impressive and well worth reading, as are the images. It’s important to take your time and pause occasionally to process the experience. The reports from countries such as Libya, Ukraine, Peru, and others, where students study under the harshest conditions, are unimaginable to us. They deserve our respect.

The exhibition is open until June 30, 2026.
